When the queen refused to do so, her brothers came up with a bait and Veervati fell into it. When the queen agreed to break the fast, the news arrived that her husband, the King, was dead.

In Mahabharata, Draupadi kept the Karwa Chauth Vrat for the Pandavas. Similarly, goddess Parvati also had Karwa Chauth Vrat for her husband, Lord Shiva. Another tale behind the famous Karva Chauth Vrat is of women Karva who challenged Yama (God of death), and in return, she earned the longevity of her husband.
